These Whoopie pies are filled with marshmallow greatness! They are super easy to make and your family or guests will love them!

Really…they are wicked good!

Jump to Recipe

There is much debate over where Whoopie pies first originated. Was it Maine, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, or Pennsylvania? I have to say, I really don’t care! I just love them.

My mother made these for us when we were kids. I always loved them. The smell of the chocolate pies (cakes) baking brings joy and fond memories. Add the marshmallow filling and I can’t wait to get my hands on one!

Preheat oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit.

In a mixing bowl add the Crisco, granulated sugar, egg, milk and vanilla extract. Mix. Then blend in the flour, baking soda, cocoa, salt and cream of tartar. Mix well.

In a mixing bowl add the Crisco, powdered sugar, egg whites, cream of tartar, Smuckers Marshmallow Topping, vanilla extract and mix with electric mixer until smooth and creamy. Set aside until cakes have cooled.

Carefully place on a cooling rack using a spatula.

When cakes have completely cooled add generous amounts of the marshmallow filling between two cakes.

For Halloween I added some food coloring for an orange filling.

Individually wrap Whoopie Pies In Saran Wrap.
