Ingredients for Fried Dough S’mores

To make this S’mores recipe even easier, I purchased already made pizza dough from the super market. Of course, you can make your own but I was looking for a really easy way to make out of this world S’mores. What else do you need to make this? Butter, olive oil, powdered sugar, cinnamon, chocolate chips and mini marshmallows.

Steps for Making Fried Dough S’mores

First, preheat the oven on broil / medium heat. Make sure the rack is placed two levels below the broiler; you don’t want it too hot or too close or it will burn the chocolate and the marshmallows.

Only half of the premade pizza dough will be needed to make the two servings in the S’mores recipe below. Cut it in half and store the rest for later or if you need to make a larger serving size. Once cut in half, you will cut it in half again. Roll out the two pieces of pizza dough on a floured surface. You will want each piece to be approximately 1/4″ thick. (If you need to increase the servings, adjust the recipe and move to a baking sheet prior to placing in oven to soften chocolate and brown marshmallows).

Then heat the butter and olive oil in the large cast iron pan over medium high heat.

Once the butter and olive oil is hot, add the pizza dough to the pan.

It doesn’t take long to lightly brown, so be sure to check using a spatula. the whole browning process happens within a couple minutes or so for each side.

After turning the first side of the dough, very generously sprinkle with powdered sugar and very lightly sprinkle with cinnamon. Turn the heat to low for the other side. You will need to add more powdered sugar and cinnamon to the other side as well once lightly browned.

Continue checking the other side, remove from the heat once lightly browned and repeat with powdered sugar and cinnamon.

Are you smelling the fried dough now? What does it remind you of? For me, we always had the best fried dough at the beach. It brings me back to my childhood. I can say this is the first time I have had it as S’mores!

Next, top with the chocolate chips and place under the broiler. Keep a close watch on it. Within a couple of minutes add the mini marshmallows. If you wait too long the chocolate will burn. You only want to soften the chocolate. Lightly brown the marshmallows. This happens quickly, so be prepared to remove from the oven. Once removed from the oven, again generously sprinkle with powdered sugar. Place on individual serving dishes and let cool for two minutes. Serve and enjoy! Make sure they are cool enough to eat and the chocolate is not too hot to burn your mouth!

Ingredients

  • store bought pizza dough
  • 2 tbsp salted butter
  • 1 tsp olive oil
  • ½ cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • ½ cup Ghiradelli milk chocolate chips
  • ½ cup mini marshmallows

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to a medium broil with shelf placed two levels below broiler.
  • Only half of the store bought pizza dough is needed to make two servings. Cut it in half and store the other half to make again later.
  • Cut the pizza dough in half and roll it out on a floured surface into two 1/4” pieces.
  • In a large cast iron pan, melt the butter and add the oil over medium high heat.
  • Once the butter and oil are hot, add the rolled out pizza dough. Once lightly browned on the first side, turn the heat down to low and flip.
  • Sprinkle very generously with powdered sugar and very lightly with cinnamon while browning the other side.
  • Flip again once the other side is lightly browned, remove from heat and again sprinkle very generously with powdered sugar and very lightly with cinnamon.
  • Top both generously with chocolate chips and place the cast iron pan into the oven for a couple minutes to allow the chocolate to get soft. Don’t do this for too long or the chocolate chips may burn.
  • After two minutes top with the mini marshmallows (be careful not to touch the chocolate with your fingers – you will get burned!). Watch closely until the marshmallows become lightly browned and remove from oven.
  • Sprinkle generously with powdered sugar.
  • Let cool for two minutes on individual plates – serve – and enjoy!
